Dave Fougeron / Southern Star Brewing Company
I began home brewing while pursuing his BS at Texas A&M University, having acquired a taste for finer beers (mostly imports in those days), but not the finances to regularly obtain them. Predictably, my first attempts were not so good, but I persevered and got better at this hobby, eventually winning many home brew competition awards.
After graduation, I began working at Saint Arnold brewing company in 1997. I stayed there until November of 1998 until I moved back to College Station, as my living situation in Houston had deteriorated. While living in College Station and working in a field more closely related to my degree, I met the woman who would become my wife. We moved to the Woodlands, got married, and began our careers anew. I was offered a job in August 2000 as the head brewer at Saint Arnold Brewing and quickly accepted. I worked there for the next 6 years before deciding to start a brewery of my own in 2007.
Southern Star Brewing Company was founded in March of 2007, and began production in February 2008. Southern Star Brewing was the first craft brewery to package in cans in Texas. The company experienced triple digit growth for its first three years before settling into a more sustainable and manageable growth pattern.
In March of 2016, Southern Star Brewing moved into its new facility with a state of the art brew system and capacity for further growth.
