Founder & Owner

By the close of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Chad Hedrick had won a pair of Olympic medals (silver & bronze), bringing his career total to five and complimenting the astonishing fifty (50) World Championship medals he accumulated as an inline skater before stepping foot on the ice. No other skater in history has amassed a comparable collection of podium appearances. He is said to be the greatest all-around skater in history.

Born and raised in Spring, Texas, Hedrick was in skates by the time he was two years old at the local roller skating rink his parents owned. By the time he was eight, he was National Champion. At sixteen, he was World Champion. Chad revolutionized the inline speed skating world with his own personal unique skating technique, originally dubbed ‘The Chad’, it is now universally referred to as the ‘double push’ or DP and is the standard for elite skaters around the world. If you aren’t using the double push, you aren’t winning. During his inline skating career Hedrick won 93 national championship events.

Inspired by watching former inline skater turned ice skater Derek Parra win gold at the 2002 Olympics, Hedrick made the switch to the ice. In February 2004, after only one year of ice training, he became World Champion – shocking everyone but himself. He went on to set six world records and was the first man in history to ever skate 10,000 meters (6.2 miles) in under 13 minutes. At the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, he captured the gold medal in the 5000 meter event, then added a silver medal in the grueling 10,000 meters and bronze in the 1500 meters.

In the years between 2006 and 2010 Chad struggled with injuries and coaching changes as he sought to return to the Olympic podium in Vancouver. At the 2010 Olympic Games he delivered a break-through performance in the 1000 meter event, a distance at which he had never before won a medal, to capture Olympic bronze. Days later, he added a fifth Olympic medal to his collection by anchoring the USA to a silver medal finish in the Team Pursuit event. With this, Chad became the second speedskater in American history to win 5 medals in 5 different distances joining the likes of the 1980 American Olympic hero Eric Heiden.

Chad now resides in Texas, with his wife Lynsey, and their three children –  Hadley (7) Harper (5) and Hogan (1).

After reaching the top of the mountain with gold around his neck, Chad experienced a moment that changed him forever.  As he stood atop the podium in a small square outside of Torino, Italy to receive his ultimate prize of a gold medal, all he could do was imagine other Olympic champions he had seen on television in the past.  He had visions of tears rolling down their face, arms up high as they jumped, and smiles that showed pure joy.  He never thought about what it would feel like, but he imagined it would be the same for him- but for some reason it didn’t meet his expectations.  He felt like there was something missing.  Shortly after that night, Chad realized that he lacked purpose in life and he was defined by how fast he could skate around a track and nothing more.  He had dedicated his whole life to being the best athlete in the world.  Not only did he lack purpose, but he deprived himself of meaningful relationships in the process.  Skating was all that mattered.  Each day he woke up chasing fame and fortune.  With that came a prideful attitude, poor sportsmanship, and even putting his sport over family and friends.  In reflection it is safe to say that God recognized skating as his “idol” and wanted to give him a wake up call for a personal introduction.  In 2009, Chad decided he wanted a life that had more meaning- he wanted to become a true leader in this world so he welcomed Jesus into his heart.  He now travels around the world sharing his “mountain to valley” story.

He now holds close to his favorite bible verse- 1 Corinthians 9:25 NIV

DoublePush 52 was started last July.  We make inline skates for kids all over the world and have distribution in 12 countries currently.  Last year, I prayed for God to give me a career that is filled with passion and purpose.  One month later, I left corporate America and started DP52.  I now have a skating school that supports my brand called The DoublePush Race Academy.  I use the platform of skating to teach kids all over the world and I focus on character, dedication, sacrifice, perseverance, and the importance of a dream.  Since January 2016 I have been to 6 different countries and inspired ove 1500 kids.  A business just isn’t enough for me.  I often find places to visit to share my story and inspire people to be their best.  Abandoned children in Venice, Down Syndrome homes in Madrid, and homeless shelters in Quito.  I feel so blessed that skating and Olympic gold gave me the opportunity to change lives, which warms my heart.

Chad raced in over 35 countries in his career and helped design countless products for various brands to help better the sport of inline speed skating.  He is excited to have the chance to use his unmatched experience and expertise to bring the absolute best products to the market to help young athletes chase their dream as he did and continue the growth that inline speedskating so desperately needs.  The brand is founded on the belief that products should be designed by champions, for champions.
